Zoom Pilates, is it worth the trouble?

Your Pilates studio announced that they are closed to in person classes but will be teaching via the Zoom platform. What now?

No one had even heard of Zoom prior to March 2020 — now it’s a staple for so many Americans and people all around the globe trying to stay connected and continue working while staying safely tucked at home.

So, when I closed my studio to in person classes in March 2020, I had no idea how my clients would respond. The good news…the response has been very positive.

After nine months of “Zooming” (with a few weeks of in person sessions, which have now stopped again) I can honestly say that for the clients who embraced this alternative method of working out, it has been such a gift! Yes, it’s definitely better to be in person and be able to use all the Pilates amazing equipment, but Zoom Pilates is also an opportunity to try new things.

I have seen my clients grow stronger and more independent, taking responsibility for making sure that their alignment is correct and that they have their “equipment” handy to access when needed. Some of my clients have gathered their own equipment, including a “Magic Circle”, hand weights, a pillow for their neck and sometimes a handy strap to help with the extra stretch.

And quite a few of my clients have their 4-legged “assistants” joining them, snuggled on a comfy chair in the background or coming over for kiss during the session. I’ve even been known to sprinkle some dog training advice along with Pilates instruction. (Raising six guide dog puppies over the past seven years has given me some background knowledge in that department too.)

So, if you are serious about doing Pilates and reaping the benefits that go along with your practice, then the answer to whether Zoom Pilates is worth it is a resounding YES!

So for now I’ll see you on Zoom soon!
